Saturday, 6 June: After celebrating Colin’s birthday on Friday night, he dropped me off at the farm and I went back to work. Upon my return, it was just Dominique and I. Pam takes one of us to Stratford every weekend, leaving on Friday night, to help out at the Saturday market. There is also a market on Sunday, but Pam manages that by herself. Pam and her companion return to the farm on Monday afternoon to resume work. Dominique and I ended up having a tiring day of weed-pulling.
Sunday, 7 June: Aside from a few tasks which need to be done every day, like managing the sprouts and watering the greenhouse, I got the day off. I spent most of my day reading; my weapon of choice is The Stand by Stephen King. Later that evening, Colin picked up a pizza on his way home from work and we played card games for the remainder of the evening.
Monday, 8 June: It rained for quite some time and the lightning made it unsafe to work in the field. After cleaning the basement, Colin picked me up on Monday night for an evening in London. We met up with my friend, Clare, and Colin’s roommate, Aziz, for a quick dinner, a movie (Mad Max: Fury Road) and some card games.
Tuesday, 9 June: We took advantage of having the following day off and went to Goderich to grab a bite to eat and walk around. We spent the rest of our evening doing our favorite activity: nothing. Well, watching Netflix, to be exact. It’s a nice break from both our physically demanding jobs (Colin works in a garden center at a local grocery store).
Wednesday, 10 June: Colin dropped me off early in the morning to return to work. Wednesday was tiring, as well. It wasn’t so much energy-draining as it was the awkward weed-pulling positions. Even after alternating between squatting and bending over, nothing is comfortable after several hours. On the bright side, my pain isn’t chronic and I’m ready to go in the morning again after a good night’s rest.
Thursday, 11 June: Dominique and I removed weeds while Pam and Jason were at the market in London I went to last week. My hands were sore (I didn’t even know that was possible) after a long day of gripping the hoe. On top of that, it was my night to cook. I find cooking here particularly difficult because we have a limited amount of ingredients, even fewer that I’m familiar with, and no way of looking up recipes.
Friday, 12 June: It rained again more or less all day, which means most of our tasks were limited to indoor ones. I, once again, prepared the salad mix for the weekend markets and also helped Pam make herb pesto. The pesto contains pumpkin seeds, walnuts, garlic, lemon juice, olive oil and about half a dozen different herbs and although it doesn’t yield much, it’s very good. According to Pam, I have the best penmanship between the four of us, which landed me the position of the designated sign and label maker. Pam and Dominique left Friday night for the Stratford weekend markets and left Jason and I to our own devices. Our day ended when they left, so I slipped away from the farm for a few hours to grab a bite to eat with Colin in Exeter.
Saturday, 13 June: Jason and I had a short day of muddy planting and weed-removing. We worked until early in the afternoon and I napped and read for the rest of the day. Colin later picked me up for a weekend of relaxing.
Sounds like hard work! Looking forward to Maui.

Auntie
Definitely appreciate your updates. You are learning so much and having the adventure of a lifetime-also glad you are getting to see Colin relatively often. Take care, Love, Grandma and Grandpa
Sounds like you are really working hard!! It take a lot of work to make your hands sore!! I guess you will really appreciate going to market and buying food rather than being on the supply side. We sure are blessed.
thanks for the interesting sharing of your time and life.
God Bless, Love,
Gpa
