At the beginning of the month, I went camping with my boyfriend Grant in Astoria, Oregon. You can read all about it here.
Then, it was a mad dash traveling between Tucson to see my family (my dog Bailey turned 11!) and getting my shit together at my Grandma’s house outside Los Angeles before another month of working in Alaska.
Then, I made the drive up to Seattle (by way of Newport so I could see Grant again before heading out to sea, plus it makes a kind of convenient stop along the way even if it is two hours roundtrip from the I-5) quite literally through the fire and flames. Okay, maybe not quite. The smoke was there especially in southern Oregon but didn’t effect my visibility or health as I was just passing through. After I left for Alaska, the PNW got a bout of rain that really helped control the fires.
After a few days of confinement to my hotel and one last COVID test, I got on my boat. We are fishing out of King Cove, exactly where I was this time last year but this boat is so much nicer. You’re already living a depraved life in the middle of the ocean (especially in COVID times where we can’t leave our boats) so I wanted an especially nice boat for my short contract and my employer obliged. The first trip was rough (20-30ft waves and I got violently seasick), but since then everything has been status quo as a crawl through my 45-day contract.

Sorry we missed you while you were home. What a summer! COVID, the heat, a presidential debate that makes you wonder what happened to Colin Powell or Mitt Romney, canceled July vacation in CO, etc. Looking forward to seeing your family, grandfather, Deb and A. Jean next weekend. Hope your brothers are there too!
Love, A.C.
