Another month in paradise. Except not really.
I boarded my boat late last month and have been with them this whole time. We have bounced around between King Cove, Akutan and Dutch Harbor ports for offloads, fuel and repairs. Unfortunately, in the midst of COVID, we are still not allowed to leave the boat while at the plant. Sometimes, we tie up the boat at a different dock for a few hours and I’m able to leave the boat and go for a walk. But other than that, I’ve been trapped on this boat. The weather has been rough at times, fishing has been slow and crappy, there have been a lot of gear problems and we all have got a bit of cabin fever. Needless to say, we’re all ready to go home.
We finished fishing the other day and I’m scheduled to fly out the day after tomorrow and I can’t wait to be back to some semblance of civilization. I’m excited for camping, seeing my friends, family and boyfriend and some warmer weather (it snowed here in Akutan this morning, get me out!).
